Condolences

Reginald George Albert Bailey was born on 3rd January 1938 and joined the club on 30th November 1970 and became a Life Member.

He was a good club athlete and often featured in winning teams. He loved cross-country but also competed in road races, here he is pictured in the centre winning his age group category at the Butser Run 42 years ago alongside Peter Newton (right) and Brian Ward (left). Reg also competed in the World Veterans Road Race Championships in 1979 and ran in both the 10k & marathon, setting PB’s in both.

After mainstream competition he continued to do Parkruns, particularly his local one at Havant, competing there over 300 times. He last competed there when he was 85!

Sadly, there is another death to report, that of John Brothers, a former member at the age of 92. The club are indebted to John as his company, JB Air Heating, sponsored several of the club’s road races – the D Day 10k, the Portsmouth 10 mile and the veteran categories of the Victory 5.

The club wholeheartedly offers their condolences to all those who knew both Reg and John.

The text presents the information in an orderly and understandable way. Each section adds relevant information without being repetitive. I appreciated being able to find all the necessary information in a single text. It is not easy to find articles that treat this subject with this clarity.
